A couple of weeks ago, I've come across a blog entry that has been gunning myspace down. Since then, I have had a few articles in me inbox about myspace's vulnerability to malwareZzz/ adwareZzz/ phishing. So, I have decided to blog them all n share it. But then, I've realised that silly me, I've lost the links! aaargh!!! Since then, I've given up on blogging it until today when I have zapped onto an old episode of Tyra Show. The topic has been about the myspace phenomenon. The craze in the US is full-on in zat about everybody is into it. I love dried fruits. Because of their soft, velvety texture & intense taste. But the sight of the one pictured above.. it had an intense taste to be the clown of all dried fruits.
My friend had real trouble keeping his hand still while I made a conscious effort to steady myself to take the snap. No it wasn't tingling his palm, but getting his imagination go wild from the time I casually said "poire meme sa?" when he's been picking it up from the sachet of assorted fruits.
We've been laughing at a fruit!

It'll not be surprising to find creole morisien being taught at school.

After all, our island is known to engender a good amount of wackos who shine in their ignorance and narrow mindedness as to believe that they can impose their way of life on about everybody. For instance, some random dude has been responsible for the creation of the "risse-moboule-aah" political party together with its assassination squad and covert training ground. Then, we have had to put up with the angst of another who has lost so much faith in the educational system that he has had to stand up against the catholic church and what has been its rightly due for generations, i.e. that its secondary institutions reserve a given percentage of admission to catholics only. The latter has even moved heaven and earth so that the language of its ethnic community is credited in the final year exam. With all this in consideration, i.e. that many of us will strive for the benefit of only those of similar ethnicity and not that of the general good, the likelihood that we do function as a nation is obviously questionable.

However, despite all these childish backstabbing, blatant protectionism, idiotic racial prejudice and "rancid stereotypes", there is that one thing that do unite us all. This is our creole. Though, birds of the same feathers do tend to flock together, fortunately for us lot, we have our creole with which some sort of bonding can be secured. Contrary to some other multicultural countries, all of us in Mru (whatever our ethnicity) can speak the local language (i.e. creole) in the most flamboyant of ways. Communication is thus not a problem for we are all indeed pure-homegrown morisien mwa! Creole, amongst other things, is what defines us all.

I'm thus proud of it but I have to admit that having creole taught is pushing it way too far. It's not as if we are facing its imminent extinction, right!?! Unlike some indigenous tribes who have suffered under the hand of the then colonial powers and have lost part of their cultural heritage and language, we have been lucky enough not to have experienced such abhorrent cleansing procedures. So, why the fuss? How will a pass or an A+ in my creole studies embellish my resume? Will I even get a job or a good pay? Or, is it simply some kind of a devious political scheme to earn a few more votes for the bonanza that is being an MP?

As Kaz has mentioned, there are so many ways of expressing one thing that standardizing the language will, in the end, be self-defeating and may be the cause of its own death. It is its free-spirited nature that after all, has enabled it to grow and flourish to such elaborate complexity and intricate nuances. Also,

Someone suddenly had this genius idea that the native language of the 'small island off the coast of South Africa' should be standardised, even taught at schools. There's japanese language for people of Japan, english for british people, American english for the pakistani enemies, and creolized englis for mauritian pipoule.

A couple of weeks ago while blog hopping to Global Voices, I have found myself intrigued by this article: Mooziko, the African YouTube. I've meant to blog about it but I have kept postponing the idea until now.
If you are into African videos, then mooziko should definitely be your online home! (See Mooziko's home page here).

Another thing I've been wanting blog to about is sphere. It's a search engine for blogs. I'ven't used it that much but supposedly it's way better than blogger's blog search. So far, the only thing I've had its spiders look up for me is anime related stuffs.

What else!?! hmmm....let's see!
[after a few s of rummaging through my blog things] Voila! Orbit 1! This is mostly for those among us who are into photograpy (which will be the majority, I guess!). It has some really neat pics! Actually, it has heap loads of them! So, yeah, if you find any interesting ones please share with me for I'ven't been through all of it.

The last one is the interesting BluWiki. It's like wikipedia in that any page that has been created via it can be edited by about anybody. Surprisingly, even though they have similar concept as wikipedia, they nevertheless oppose the idea of a free online encyclopedia that is modifiable by all (see BoycottWikipedia n Criticisms about wikipedia).

Ok, I'm done! Oufff!!! :P
Now, another intention of mine has been to prove to Kaz that even though, we don't have any ideas, we can still "bore" blog about the sites we end up browsing. It's still contributing something, right!?! What you guys think!?!

Thanks Waz for giving the opportunity to contribute to morisien mwa. You know what, I’m always proud of saying “mo morisien mwa”! I love this country and I’m of course a bit sad of leaving in February… but that’s life… Nous avons besoins de racines et d’ailes. No matter how strongly attached we are to home, I guess we must all leave one day. I hope that this blog becomes popular among mauritians around the globe. Heck of web 2.0

I scanned both oreilly and wikipedia articles from Waz's post below. Loads of technical words, which can't be excluded anyway. The web is such a vast topic even computer science students wont be able to learn everything in 3 years. 2 of the main branches of web is 1. Networking 2. Distributed Systems, and there's seperate MSCs for each.. i.e one branch of the web is complex in itself..
For me, web 2.0 = 'perpetual beta' from the mind map shown in the wikipedia ariticle.
The 'perpetual beta' means something which will keep changing to improve user friendliness, increase user satisfaction and deteriorate user insomnia.
Change/ add-ons to web contents will be easy user tasks rather than performed by programmers with uncombed hair, tired eyes behind thick glasses, and.. an overfilled bladder. Soon we wont need programmers for everything. We are blogging n not even bothering about the codes/ tags needed to format text or to upload pictures. Or add video to your web space! Take for example hi5.
However, this will mean harder job for those in the Programming field. It's like doing medical studies for computer systems! Imagine how complex underlying codings of Web 2.0 would be because it's supposed to make things and everythings for users easy: code so that they don't have to code...

Yet, surprisingly, he does impart us with some well-thought and highly inspiring comments that are diligently mixed with specific dose of humor or sarcasm. I have to admit that's an interesting strategy I haven't thought of! lol :P Anywayz, on the otherhand when he does blog, everything seems to come to an abrupt stop for possibly even God does come over to have a read through.
Unfortunately, zis time his latest blog entry is not an original post of his and as such suffers from a severe lack of his personal signature way of satirising life in general. Nevertheless, for once, he has at least taken upon himself to bless us with a blog update to his space. So, if you are interested, then enjoy Licking Envelopes.

Well, yes, it does bother me! It bothers me so much that at times when I blog I usually link that particular word/ term to another webpage that does explain what I want to convey. Or simply, at the bottom of me blog, I'll insert a paragraph with the required information. What does all this have to do with web 2.o then!?! This, i.e. web 2.0, is actually that particular term that has been irking me for a while because I haven't been able to figure out what the hell the author is alluding to. I know of a web but so far, my knowledge has been limited to basic programming/ net navigation and simple boreblogging. I'm not your all out 100% balls-to-bones geek material and I'm not an undergraduate/ postgrad computer science student. As such, I'm not really cognizent in all the mumbo jumbo terms associated with the web, programming or even computers. It's but by mere coincidence that I've started to blog. And programming, so far, remains as a hobby.

So, what the heck is web 2.0!?!

I've been googling it. And in my not so humble opinion, O'Reilly offers the most detailed, easily readable and comprehensible statement on this (see what is web 2.0?). And yesterday, I've ended searching it on wikipedia (follow this link for the article) and loe and behold, wikipedia also refers to O'Reilly.

In me own words (from the perspective of a non-professional, if it's of any worth), web 2.0 is basically about what I'm doing right now, i.e. blogging, sharing links, uploading pics, etc. The whole concept is about how the web has suddenly morphed into a more user oriented environment within which it's us, the netizens, who rule. In web 2.0, it's actually the users who decide what is good/ bad and what has to be prioritised! We, and not the multibillion companies, are movers and shakers. Ooh-ray!!! :D

Web 2.0 is the why blogging and online social networks are the current fad. It is either the raison d'etre or the result of sites like flickr.com, del.icio.us and others. The interest in freewares, sharewares and peer-to-peer data exchange is web 2.0. It is everything that is currently empowering the user in doing what he/she wants! That's awesome, huh!?!

MSN spaces has gone through numerous changes ever since I've started to blog my Wazeeland. The url for our blog area has been altered countless of times and eventually, MSN spaces has been revamped to Windows Live Spaces as part of the Live.com experience. On top of that, the team has released their Windows Live Writer (see here), a desktop blog publishing application, that is free to download and is surprisingly compatible with the likes of blogger, wordpress and many others (as quoted by wikipedia). While Meli Meli currently swears by it, I have yet to have a go at this "masterpiece".

As a result of these many updates, frustration and anger have peeked amongst its users given that the many simple tweaking we have been doing has been lost along the way. The fact that Rem, whose Gothic space has had countless of hits, visitors and comments, is no more further testifies to this. In an email exchange I have had with him in the early days of August this year, he has made it clear that his space is currently in private status in protest to these changes. And if there is still some trace of doubt wrt all this in your mind (i.e. that it may well be hearsays or lies), please read through the comments at Korku Anomah Space for they give a better picture as to how bad some of the users have been affected. Fortunately, I haven't subjected Wazeeland to much major modifications nor have I added too much unsupported features. One of the many reasons has been that I've wanted to keep it simple so that it allows for a relatively quick access and so that it doesn't deplete my bandwidth. Thus, its sparing in all this!

So far, Windows Live Spaces still restricts the user in making some neat tweaking/ customisation to its template but given the simplicity with which one can blog (without having to worry much about the coding), I guess for now it will have to do. Also, it is closely linked to messenger and this does supposedly further enrich the associated online social networking it is attributed with. Having made some really great friends around here, I think in some ways, Windows Live Spaces is indeed bloody awesome! The downside is that, at the moment, out of these public live spaces I've been through, there is only five Mauritians (estimate) who are regularly blogging away. These are Meli Meli, Pam, Rai, some random Mauritian dude who will pop in for some quickie on his/her blog every 6-12 months, and the weirdo that is Waz. When bong Lulu has had me ass around here, I've been hoping that there will be a strong online Mauritian community with which I can indentify. Imagine my disapointment! hmmmm, it will appear that everybody is at hi5, friendster, Mauritius Interactive or some other online community. Been there and most of them more or less sucks in about every aspects of "suckability 101"!!! btw, the above figure may be wrong given that the live space search rarely gives me what I want! Despite the help from Spaces Search: Demystified - UI version, I still think that the search engine is pretty much hopeless for at times, I end up with zero hits (with key words: Mauritius, Mauritian) when I know from my list of bookmarked spaces that there are quite a few out there. If not, then I may be given the same name and blog over and over again!!!! aaaaargh!!!! Hopefully, this has changed now that it is no longer in beta form.

No, there wasn't any Mauritian in sight! It was indeed coming from the store's music system. I couldn't believe it!!! I couldn't believe that I was listening to a Mauritian song!!! Yes, I couldn't believe it for they would barely play any non-english songs around here!

Quickly, I made me way to the information desk and enquired about the singer and the cd. That was how I got to learn about Putumayo World Music! It's a company that had been created in 1993 and whose mission statement was to introduce everybody to the music of the world's cultures! Marvellous!!!!! The Mauritian singer was Triton and the title of the song was Mari Niça Swing. koza! Mari Husband Niça indeed!!! :D

As a result of this midday encounter with an otherwise unknown Mauritian singer, I was smiling inside. And I kept smiling even when I stepped outside into the cold and wet weather! What a way to start the weekend! hehehe....morisien mwa! :)

HAPPY BLOG DAY 2006!!!

My first ever celebration of BLOG DAY!!! And hopefully, not my last...

I'm marking the following blogs for 3108 (in no particular order):
1) Carine's blog
She is the first Mauritian blogger according to this entry. That's really something!!!I've been reading her blog since last year. Actually, back then, I've been googling for some Mru-related pages when I have come across hers. I'm supposed to recommend blogs that are from other countries than me own but given that she now lives in Singapore and mostly blog about her sg life and her cute cat, I guess I'm not really against the established guidlines!
So, if u like cats, athletism and wanna read about some of her sg experiences, then that's the place for you!

2) Sabbah's blog
Hers is unique in that she has allowed me to gain some insight into the Middle-East crisis from the perspective of a Muslim/Arab.

I have just recently started to read her blog and the one main thing that has come through is that she is very passionate about what she writes! She is a fervent supporter of the Muslim/ Arab community and an online activist (?) for the rights of the Arab world.

3) The Asia Pages
She is an american-born single lady who is currently working in South Korea. I like her blog and the style with which she narrates her daily experience of South Korea. Through her, one can easily distinguish the gap between East n West. However, she appears to have blend in without much of a scar and appears to be enjoying herself.
Just like the previous blog has been more or less helping me in understanding the Middle-East problem, The Asia Pages is shedding some light on the complexity and "weirdness" (from the view of an outsider) that is korean culture! lol

4) Sarah's Haven of Insanity
This space is where i tend to rush to whenever I'm in need of a breather from the outside world (Well, if it's not hers, then I'm sure to be at Meli Meli or Recueil de conneries) . Her posts can easily be the most hilarious ones I've read so far and at times, are borderline offensive(but in a funny sort of way)). She is one of me favourite blogs!

Last but not least:
5) Recueil de conneries
This is a french blog with as main theme: humour! Unlike Sarah's Haven of Insanity, Sibemol, the author, uses mostly pics, with a few written entries here and there, to convey the madness that is this/ his world! As mentioned above, I'm almost always at his blog for good laugh! Another brownie point for this blog is that it's in french!!!! After a whole day of reading, talking and listening to english, french (though not my favourite written language) entries is very much welcomed! Please enjoy!

Nouveau souffle sur L'eurovision

Vous vous demandez peut-etre qui sont zoufs... Eh beh ce sont EUX qui ont gagne l'eurovision samedi soir... oui oui ce sont eux... avec une chanson intitulee ”Hard Rock Hallelujah” Non mais franchement!!! Beh heureusement que j'ai pas regarde en directe le soir sinon j'aurai eu des cauchemars 'tin.. Quand j'ai entendu Michel Druker dire "eloignez vos enfants de la tele parcequ'ils feront des cauchemars ce soir" j'ai compris pourquoi quand ces "Monsters" sont apparus! mdr... Ce fut une monstrueuse victoire...mdr
J'ai regarde aujourd'hui en rediffusion...ummm c t pas trop mal mais je trouve que l'annee derniere les choix des chansons etaient nettement mieux! En plus la gagnante, Helena Paparizzou (Grèce) l'avait bien meritee..elle au moins avec son "My Number1"...

I've just seen M:I 3 and since then, me and Kazuya, who has already seen it in London, has been in a heated debate as to whether or not Maggie Denise Quigley (see above pic) should replace Zhang Ziyi in our personal list of the current hottest actresses....hmmmm, difficult decision to make! :D

Situation de Gag a la prison centrale :
La semaine derniere le corps d'un prisonier pendu est retrouve dans la chambre des archives.Il se serait pendu depuis au moins une semaine!Personne n'a remarque sa disparition et il y a un decompte des detenus 4 fois par jour!!!!Alors que l'odeur pestilentielle se repandait,les gardes croyaient que c'etait un rat mort!!!
(2) Un jour dans la semaine,les gardes ont relache un prisonier a la place d'un autre.Il fallait liberer un certain X..Mandarin,mais ils ont relacher Y..Mandarin.Le garde a simplement appele Mandarin!! et le premier a se presenter a ete libere.C'etait pas celui qui avait purger sa peine!!!aujourdhui il court toujours!!!...
(3)je viens de lire ce matin que le compte des prisoniers a la prison ne balance pas!!il y a un prisonier en plus!!!!Les gardiens ont reconter plusieurs fois jusqu'a minuit mercredi et il y avait 1286 au lieu de 1285!Ils essaient toujours de balancer le compte!!!!
(4) A la radio(radio 1) ce matin,un prisonier est intervenu en direct dans une emission!il parlait depuis la prison sur son portable!!!!
